General information, not advice
MySMB publishes general information about running a small business in New Zealand. It isn't financial, tax, legal, employment or investment advice, and it doesn't take your particular circumstances into account. Laws, rates and thresholds change. Check the official sources we link to, and get advice from a qualified professional before making decisions for your business.
We work hard to be accurate and we correct mistakes when we find them, but we can't promise everything is complete, current or error-free.
The newsletter
The newsletter is free. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email. We may change the format, frequency or content of the newsletter, or stop publishing it.
Insiders membership
MySMB Insiders isn't open yet. Joining the waitlist doesn't create a membership or any obligation to pay. When payments open, we'll publish membership terms (including pricing, billing, cancellation and refunds) and you'll be asked to agree to them before you pay. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where they apply.
Sponsored content
Some newsletter placements and videos are paid for by sponsors. We always label them. Sponsors don't influence our editorial coverage. Mentioning a product, partner deal or sponsor isn't an endorsement that it's right for your business.
Using our content
The MySMB name, logo, articles, newsletter issues and design are ours, or used with permission. You're welcome to share links and quote short extracts with credit and a link back. Please don't republish whole articles or issues without asking us first.
The photographs on the site are from Wikimedia Commons and Pexels, used under their stated licences, and are illustrative only. Their creators and licences are listed on our photo credits page.
Links to other sites
We link to other websites, especially official government sources. We're not responsible for their content or how they handle your information.
Acceptable use
Don't misuse the website: no attempts to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to it, no automated sign-ups, and no submitting other people's details without their permission.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the website or newsletter. If you're using MySMB for the purposes of a business, you agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 doesn't apply, to the extent permitted by section 43 of that Act.
Changes and governing law
We may update these terms from time to time; the current version will always be here. These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and New Zealand courts have jurisdiction.
